Ministry of the Interior Issues Urgent Safety Advisory Following Heavy Flooding In Accra, Ghana

The Ministry of the Interior has issued an urgent public safety advisory following heavy rains that caused widespread flooding in several parts of Ghana on Monday morning, raising concerns over the safety of residents and commuters.

In a statement released to the public, the Ministry urged Ghanaian to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve. Citizens who are safely at home have been advised to remain indoors, while those at their workplaces or other secure locations should stay where they are until it is safe to move.

The Ministry emphasized that floodwaters can rise rapidly and without warning, making roads, bridges, and waterways extremely dangerous. Motorists and pedestrians have therefore been strongly warned against attempting to drive or walk through flooded areas, as doing so could result in injury, loss of life, or damage to property.

To respond to the emergency, several national security and disaster response agencies have been mobilized. These include the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other emergency response teams. The agencies have been deployed to monitor affected communities, assist stranded residents, manage traffic, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.

The Ministry called on the public to cooperate with emergency personnel, remain calm, and follow all official safety instructions. It also encouraged residents to monitor updates from government agencies and trusted media outlets for the latest information on the evolving weather situation.

As the rains continue in some areas, Ghanaians are urged to prioritize safety above all else. Staying indoors and avoiding flooded roads could save lives.

Stay safe. Stay informed.
