MTN Ghana Apologizes as Undersea Cable Cuts Disrupt Internet Services
Accra, Ghana – MTN Ghana has apologized to customers after widespread internet service disruptions affected users across the country. The telecom company attributed the outage to multiple undersea fibre-optic cable cuts, which disrupted international data connectivity.
In a statement, MTN Ghana said its technical teams are working closely with international partners to restore full service as quickly as possible. The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers, particularly businesses, students, and individuals who depend on stable internet access for daily activities.
The disruption has resulted in slow internet speeds, intermittent connectivity, and difficulties accessing online platforms. Many customers took to social media to voice their frustration as the outage affected work, online banking, virtual meetings, streaming services, and communication.
Undersea fibre-optic cables carry the majority of the world's internet traffic. When these cables are damaged—whether by ship anchors, fishing activities, or natural events—millions of users across multiple countries can experience service interruptions.
MTN Ghana has assured customers that engineers are continuously monitoring the situation and implementing measures to minimise the impact while repair work progresses.
The company thanked subscribers for their patience and promised to provide regular updates until normal internet services are fully restored.
