Presidency Issues Urgent Flood Safety Advisory as Heavy Rains Batter Parts of Ghana.

 Accra, Ghana – June 29, 2026

The Presidency has urged residents in flood-prone and affected communities across Ghana to remain vigilant and strictly comply with safety directives as persistent heavy rainfall continues to trigger flooding in several parts of the country.

In a public safety advisory, citizens were asked to stay indoors if they are already in a safe location and avoid all unnecessary movement until weather conditions improve.

Authorities warned residents not to attempt crossing flooded roads, whether on foot or in vehicles, stressing that floodwaters can be deeper and more dangerous than they appear. People whose homes are becoming inundated have been advised to evacuate immediately to higher ground and call 112 for emergency assistance.

Motorists have also been cautioned to avoid flood-affected roads, particularly the Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo, and Graphic Road areas, which have experienced significant flooding. Drivers encountering floodwaters are urged to turn around and seek safer, elevated routes rather than risk driving through submerged roads.

The Presidency further advised the public to unplug electrical appliances during the storm and stay away from electrical poles, transformers, and fallen power lines to reduce the risk of electrocution.

Emergency response agencies remain on high alert, while residents are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow instructions from the security and emergency services.

As the rains continue, Ghanaian are reminded that protecting lives must remain the top priority. Cooperation with emergency authorities and adherence to safety guidelines can help prevent avoidable tragedies during this period of severe weather.
